Festival Mar Abierto will celebrate its 20th anniversary with the soprano from Gipuzkoa Ainhoa Arteta, in an exclusive concert in the Jerónimo Saavedra Hall of the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus. After winning the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in New York and the Concours International de Voix d’Opéra Plácido Domingo in Paris, Ainhoa Arteta began a brilliant international career that has taken her to perform in some of the most prestigious theatres and halls in the world, such as the Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, Royal Opera House – Covent Garden, Bayerische Staatsoper, La Scala in Milan, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, San Carlo in Naples, Arena di Verona, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Royal Opera House in London, Teatro de Bellas Artes in Mexico, as well as the opera houses of Washington, Houston, Dallas, Seattle, San Francisco, Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, Bologna, among many others. Over the course of her career she has sung the leading roles in operas such as Madama Butterfly, Adriana Lecouvreur, La Wally, Falstaff, La Traviata, La Bohème, Tosca, Manon Lescaut, Roméo et Juliette, Turandot (Liù), Carmen (Micaëla), Così fan tutte (Fiordiligi) and La Rondine (Magda), among others. Milestones in her career include her performance with the New World Symphony under the baton of Michael Tilson Thomas at Carnegie Hall in New York; Faust at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and at the Münchner Opern-Festspiele alongside Rolando Villazón; La Traviata at the Metropolitan Opera and in theatres such as Detroit, Washington, Cincinnati, Amsterdam, the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville and the Festival de Peralada; as well as La Bohème at the Metropolitan Opera, San Carlo in Naples, San Francisco and Amsterdam. Also noteworthy are her performances at the Arena di Verona, the Teatro Verdi in Trieste under the direction of Daniel Oren, the premiere of Le Dernier Jour d’un Condamné at the Salle Pleyel in Paris with Roberto Alagna, and her appearances at ABAO Bilbao Ópera, the Seattle Opera, Bordeaux, Riga and Bonn. Her intense concert activity has led her to collaborate with prestigious orchestras and to be conducted by maestros such as Sir Neville Marriner, Gustavo Dudamel, Gianandrea Noseda, Nicola Luisotti, Christopher Hogwood, Vasily Petrenko, Víctor Pablo Pérez, Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez, Frédéric Chaslin, among others. As a recitalist, she has performed in the world’s most important halls together with pianists such as Roger Vignoles, Malcolm Martineau, Marco Evangelisti and Rubén Fernández Aguirre. Among the numerous awards she has received are the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts, the prize of The Hispanic Society of America for her contribution to the arts, the title of Universal Basque, an Honorary Doctorate from the Menéndez Pelayo International University and from the Rey Juan Carlos University, the Grand Cross of the Order of Dos de Mayo of the Community of Madrid, the Ondas Award, the Ópera Actual Award, the Golden Microphone, the Tambor de Oro (Golden Drum) of the city of San Sebastián, as well as her appointment as Academician of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Cádiz and Honorary Academician of the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts in 2024, among many others.
