Dance – Bailar los Campus: JALEO
Details
Dance — Bailar los Campus – JALEO at the La Granja Building, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. JALEO, by choreographer and flamenco dancer Guadalupe Torres, arrives to stir up the atmosphere of “La Granja” with BAILAR LOS CAMPUS. The students and the architecture of this iconic building will both bear witness to and become the stage for this proposal. Jaleo has always been present as a symbol of joy, as encouragement for those who need strength, as a shout in celebration, and as resilience in pain and art. This piece is based on jaleo as an expression of resistance, through improvisations inspired by the poem “Anda jaleo” by Federico García Lorca, in which a song of apparent joy and festivity hides the pain and tragedy of a subjugated society, one that seems destined to repeat itself across different generations and eras. BAILAR LOS CAMPUS is an initiative promoted by the ULPGC in collaboration with the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and peso producciones, which becomes part of university life during the 2026 academic year, with the aim of bringing new ways of expressing movement into everyday life. Music by Kike Terrón. Photography by Richard Cavero. Organised by: Vice-Rectorate for Culture, Sport and Society, and peso producciones. In collaboration with: Cabildo of Gran Canaria and Teatro Guiniguada – Government of the Canary Islands.
