“You Drive Me Lorca!” Theatrical Tribute

Las Escuelas Artísticas Municipales de Arucas celebrate the theatre exchange with San Bartolomé de Tirajana with “You Drive Me Lorca!” A stage tribute that brings together poetry, music and emotion around the figure of the poet from Granada The performance will take place on 27 May at the Nuevo Teatro Viejo with free admission until full capacity is reached. The Municipal Art Schools of Arucas are once again promoting their traditional theatre exchange with the Municipal School of Theatre of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, an initiative that strengthens stage training and shared learning among young performers. This edition presents the play “You Drive Me Lorca!: A Living Tribute to Word and Emotion”, a production that pays homage to Federico García Lorca through a stage journey where poetry, theatre and music intertwine. The proposal brings to life characters and universal feelings such as Rosita’s hope, Yerma’s frustrated desire, or the vital intensity of the author himself, in a dialogue full of sensitivity and beauty. The show delves into the main themes of Lorca’s universe: love and frustration, freedom versus repression, the passing of time, identity, and the need to express one’s essence in the face of imposed silence. It is an artistic journey that vindicates authenticity and emotion as a way of understanding. For the participating students, this work represents a highly valuable training experience, as it allows them to explore the power of poetic language, enhance bodily and vocal expression, and strengthen collective creation as the foundation of theatre learning.
