Where Is Alice? – by Marea Danza

Friday, April 10 · 19:00
Price: More info

Details

Alicia stops playing, stops looking out the window, stops going out into the garden, stops ringing doorbells and running away, stops drawing with chalk on the sidewalks, stops being the girl she was to become the Alicia that her country of Wonders wants her to be. The Valencian company Marea Danza celebrates its tenth anniversary at the Teatro Pérez Galdós with Where is Alicia? a flamenco and critical reinterpretation of Lewis Carroll’s classic. A family-friendly proposal that adapts the universe of Alice in Wonderland from a contemporary, feminist and flamenco perspective. * Performance recommended for children from 6 years of age. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. More information in the “Taquillas y Normativa” (Box Office and Regulations) section of this website https://teatroperezgaldos.es/taquillas-normativa. NOTICE: strobe lights will be used during this show. If you are prone to photosensitive epilepsy or other related conditions, we recommend that you take the necessary precautions. What used to be wonders are now traps and deception. The rabbit hole is the pit of vanities. Alicia falls prey to a world, country or network where everything is what it seems, but nothing is real. Alicia gets lost in her world of artificial illusions, false flattery, card castles, overwhelming and tempting messages. Alicia is stuck, waiting. People pass by her that she does not see, birds she does not see, glances she never meets. She only wishes to hear that sound, that feline sound that will open the doors of the Wonders and make her forget who she is. The piece addresses themes such as hyperconnection, digital anxiety, body worship and the loss of identity in childhood. The emblematic scenes of the classic are transformed into symbolic images of today: a sea of tears that evokes bullying on social media, a Queen of Hearts turned into an influencer obsessed with likes, a clock that represents the diluted notion of time, and a Cheshire cat that appears as a constant notification that seduces Alicia.
