Poetry and Music: Different Birds on the Same Branch
Details
Leonard Cohen, Silvia Pérez Cruz, Joan Manuel Serrat and Sheila Blanco have something in common: they have made the birds of poetry migrate to the forest of music, turning the verses of Antonio Machado, Rosalía de Castro or Federico García Lorca into songs. They have transformed singing into a bridge. In this workshop, the goal is to cross it. Through various examples of songs and artists, the poet and composer Celia Bsoul will explore different types of relationships between poetry and music, and will examine how we can learn from both when it comes to creating. Through listening, analysis and practical exercises, we will investigate what happens when poems decide to become songs, or when they resist this and turn into a genuine hybrid.
