The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is collaborating with the Teatro Guiniguada in organizing the dance workshop led by Paula Quintana under the title “LABORATORY_ Excavation and Body in Trance / movement and artistic creation”. The ULPGC will host this workshop, which is offered within the framework of the project “Dancing the Campuses”, promoted by the University in collaboration with the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Peso Producciones and Teatro Guiniguada, with the aim of breaking into university life by providing new ways of expressing movement in everyday routines. Recommended age: Approximately between 16 and 60 years. Capacity: 30 places Schedule: 17:00–20:00 Audience: people interested in dance and movement work and the performing arts Workshop description Research and artistic creation laboratory focused on body and movement, based on the processes and work of Paula Quintana. It draws inspiration from collective dance sessions and rituals and from improvisation techniques to expand states of consciousness and to enter into dialogue with the different layers that run through the body: the purely physical and dynamic, inherited imprints, thoughts, emotions… and to integrate them into an artistic creation process, both individually and collectively. Paula Quintana Creator, performer. Her work is based on a personal language that combines disciplines in order to create communication with the audience on different levels, both intellectual and visceral, with a strong commitment to the times we live in and the search for genuine forms for each creation. Born in Tenerife, she trained in theatre, classical and contemporary dance, and flamenco. After graduating in Dramatic Art she moved to Madrid, where she continued her training and worked in various audiovisual, theatre and dance productions, both in Spain and abroad. In 2019 she began a trilogy on the elevation of bodies, starting with Las Alegrías (2019), Replika Award for Best Performer for Paula Quintana, 4 nominations at the 2020 Premios Max, Teatros del Canal Madrid, PAMS fair in Seoul (South Korea), Tanzmesse International Fair in Düsseldorf, Coronet Theater in London, Museo Universidad de Navarra, among others. The trilogy continues with LA CARNE (2020), presented at Teatro Español in Madrid, Grupo Ciudades Patrimonio de la Humanidad de España, Auditorio de Tenerife, Centro Párraga in Murcia, and the ART for CHANGE program of the LaCAIXA Foundation. The series ends with HUERTO (2023), created with a multidisciplinary team made up of artists and scientific and new‑technology researchers. She has been in residence at Graner (Barcelona), BAD Bilbao, Teatre Principal de Palma, Teatro Cuyás. Her stage production has been developed in parallel with significant transdisciplinary research and cultural mediation work, creating projects for educational centers and vulnerable groups in collaboration with governments, island councils and institutions. She also creates choreographies for artists and festivals both in Spain and abroad.
