David Pantaleón Film Sessions: Short Films Trilogy and El becerro pintado
Details
David Pantaleón, the filmmaker who turned his homeland into a cinematic universe. “That experience planted foundations that are still present in the films I make today.” The director announces his return to his homeland to keep creating from his territory and his people. After moving the audience with the opening address of the patron saint festivities of Valleseco, David Pantaleón returns to the heart of the cultural programme with a series of film days dedicated to his work, which will turn the Municipal Auditorium into a meeting space between cinema, territory and collective memory. Considered one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Spanish cinema, he has developed a career recognised at festivals such as Rotterdam, Oberhausen, Seville, Málaga and Visions du Réel, with a filmography marked by humour, formal experimentation and a deeply human gaze on territory. Special prominence will be given to the trilogy *Cuentos de cartón* (Cardboard Tales), made together with the Valleseco Occupational Centre: *Fondo o forma*, *A lo oscuro más seguro* and *La pasión de Judas* (The Passion of Judas). Three works that brought the cultural and social reality of the municipality to the international short-film circuit. “We had the opportunity to grow together and experiment for several years. That experience planted foundations that are still present in the films I make today.” About *La pasión de Judas*, inspired by the traditional burning of Judas in Valleseco, the director highlights: “Seeing how something so local became something universal was very moving.” The programme will also include the screening of *Rendir los machos* (2022), his first feature film and winner of the Best Director Award at the Seville European Film Festival. Wednesday, 20 May | 7:30 p.m. *Fondo o forma*, *A lo oscuro más seguro*, *La pasión de Judas* and *El becerro pintado*. Thursday, 21 May | 7:30 p.m. *Rendir los machos*. Both sessions will conclude with an open discussion with the director and participants in the audiovisual pieces.
