Concert — “Balada de Sabanda” with Mestisay and Los Sabandeños at Teatro Cuyás, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Balada de Sabanda, a show to celebrate the music of the islands, where Los Sabandeños join forces with Olga Cerpa and Mestisay. Tickets available at this link They join their voices to present an exciting joint show in which, over the course of an hour and a half, they exchange styles, repertoires, arrangements and vocal and instrumental combinations in a musical dialogue between the prestigious singer, the soloists of Los Sabandeños and their choir. Thirty musicians and singers support and take part in the close dialogue that takes place live between Olga Cerpa and Elfidio Alonso: it is an emotional tribute where anecdotes, characters, landscapes and songs follow one another, sketching out a territory of friendship and admiration from the singer towards one of the fathers of island music. Songs such as “Tambor de sequías”, “De La Esperanza a Taganana”, “El cambullonero”, “Maspalomas y tú” or “Aires de Lima” follow one another in the programme alongside milestones from the Latin American songbook previously explored by both groups: “Encuentro en el Jaguey”, “Como pájaros en el aire” and “Veinte años” are also performed live. Likewise, ten songs from the popular repertoire of Olga Cerpa and Mestisay will be heard in this recital, in which the Los Sabandeños choir and its soloists join Cerpa’s voice, who was named Sabandeña de honor (Honorary Sabandeña) of the legendary group from La Laguna two years ago. Songs such as “En Busca de Valentina”, “Esa musiquita” or the piece recovered for the occasion, “Habanera embrujada”, are part of this shared songbook. There is also room for some of the most popular songs by Néstor Álamo, so that the audience can enjoy a lively and deeply moving show that invites them to share common musical memories. The performance scheduled at the prestigious Cuyás performing arts venue will also be used to record this emotional musical encounter live. The result will be released on a full-length album that will go on sale at Christmas 2026.
