Talk — Knowledge Gathering from Sea to Summit: Popular Festivals in the Society of the Agaete Valley, Gran Canaria. Free attendance with prior registration. On Friday, May 15, we will meet in Agaete, at La Sociedad del Valle, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. An opportunity to dialogue and delve into the encounter between the traditional and the modern in our popular festivals. What is happening in the festivals of our villages? How is modernity being received? How is the influence of the new and the weight of the traditional fitting together? Are cultures dynamic or static? What do we want? What limits and what opportunities can be glimpsed? We will be joined by the knowledge of: – Dara Medina Chirino (sociologist) – Gema Rosa Jiménez Armas (Rama de San Pedro, Valle de Agaete) – Francisco Montesdeoca Santana (Traída del Barro La Atalaya, Santa Brígida) – Carmelo Padrón Rodríguez (Carneros de Tigaday, Frontera – El Hierro) Limited capacity. We will round off the afternoon with a small tasting of local products. This series is promoted by the Island Institute for the Integrated Management of the World Heritage and the Biosphere Reserve of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria as a meeting space for the exchange of knowledge, experiences and perspectives.
