Bach, an experience that the ensemble dedicates to the memory of its founder, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, on the tenth anniversary of his death. Each performance of these masterpieces is a challenge for musicians and audience alike. Under the direction of Stefan Gottfried, the ensemble reinterprets these works for the ears of today’s audience, keeping alive the legacy of its creator. Concert in collaboration with the Sociedad Filarmónica de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Collaboration of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria – Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria in the loan of a harpsichord by Helmut Perl. For more than 60 years, Concentus Musicus Wien has been the home and original nucleus of the musical creativity of its founder, Nikolaus Harnoncourt. The intensity that characterises the group, and its historically informed yet dynamic approach to musical masterpieces, has always essentially been based on Harnoncourt’s demand that every musician develop an active understanding of the works and personally reflect on why they are played “in this way and not another”. In this way, the group inevitably developed its own specific musical language, which is what makes it so unique. The current mission of Concentus Musicus is to continue kindling the spark that was ignited, to constantly revitalise it and fan it into flame in order to open up perspectives that have yet to be explored. With this in mind, Concentus Musicus has renewed itself from within: from its own ranks, Stefan Gottfried shapes the future as artistic director together with concertmasters Erich Höbarth and Andrea Bischof. Recently, Concentus Musicus Wien performed J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio at the Musikverein in Vienna and C. Monteverdi’s operas Orfeo, Poppea and Ulisse at the Vienna State Opera. As resident orchestra, Concentus Musicus performs Baroque masterpieces every year at the world‑renowned Melk Abbey. In addition, it collaborates regularly with La Seine Musicale in Paris. Born in Vienna, Stefan Gottfried studied harpsichord, piano
