The visionary British artist Jacob Collier, together with the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Suzie Collier, are part of the programme of the 35th Canarias Jazz&más International Festival. The Symphonic Hall of the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus will be the setting for a concert where symphonic music, pop, jazz and audience participation come together in an unusual sound experience, marked by creativity, emotion and a direct connection with the audience. Renowned for turning entire auditoriums into one huge collective instrument, multi‑Grammy‑winning Jacob Collier breaks down the barriers between stage and audience at every performance. Jacob Collier is one of the most innovative and fascinating musicians of his generation. A singer, songwriter, arranger, multi‑instrumentalist and producer with multiple Grammy Awards to his name, his artistic vision transcends genres and redefines the boundaries of contemporary music. He rose to international fame thanks to his groundbreaking performances on the internet, and since then has collaborated with artists such as Herbie Hancock, Coldplay, John Mayer, Stormzy and Quincy Jones, who described him as “an absolute genius”. His monumental recording project Djesse, divided into four volumes, brings together artists from all over the world and explores a sonic universe that ranges from classical music and jazz to pop and world music. Live, Collier turns each concert into a unique experience, inviting the audience to participate actively and transforming entire halls into a vast collective choir. His blend of virtuosity, improvisation and human warmth has established him as one of the most influential and thrilling figures in 21st‑century music. Suzie Collier is a conductor, violinist and internationally renowned teacher, acclaimed for her exceptional musical talent and her ability to inspire both musicians and audiences. Her recent appearances as a conductor include engagements with the Nashville and Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestras, the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philly Pops and the Britten Sinfonia, working with special guests such as Jacob Collier, Chris Thile and Take 6. She conducted the recording sessions for Jacob Collier's album Djesse Vol. 4 with the Metropole Orkest, as well as the orchestral version of Stormzy's Firebabe at Abbey Road Studios in London. As a violinist, she has performed on iconic stages such as London's O2 Arena, the Sydney Opera House, the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. She combines her artistic activity with intense teaching work at institutions such as Berklee Valencia, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Royal Academy of Music and MIT. With a symphonic tradition dating back to 1845, the current Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra (OFGC) was founded in 1980 by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and has established itself as one of the leading orchestral ensembles in Spain. Under the artistic direction of Karel Mark Chichon since 2017, the orchestra has achieved notable national and international recognition, reflected both in specialised critical acclaim and strong public support. Throughout its history it has worked with leading conductors and world‑class soloists such as Christoph Eschenbach, Vasily Petrenko, Gidon Kremer, Elina Garanca, Jonas Kaufmann, Plácido Domingo and Alfredo Kraus, and has also developed an intense international presence with tours across Europe and Asia. Its recording activity includes releases on top‑tier labels such as Deutsche Grammophon. In addition to its presence on major symphonic and operatic stages, the OFGC plays an important educational, social and cultural role, consolidating its status as a true musical ambassador for Gran Canaria.
