The Boat of the Desert tells the story of a Canarian nurse who arrives in El Aaiún in 1970 with the intention of working temporarily at the local hospital. However, her life changes radically when she falls in love with Yahadih, a young Sahrawi who joins the Polisario Front in the struggle for the independence of Western Sahara. Her relationship with Yahadih, marked by secrecy and war, makes her a witness to Spain’s withdrawal, Morocco’s occupation and the repression suffered by the Sahrawi people. In 1991, in the refugee camps, she receives a visit from Mercedes, a journalism student interested in documenting the conflict. Through their conversation, she relives her time in a territory marked by uncertainty, resistance and loss. With a blend of love, betrayal and resistance, SAHARA. The Boat of the Desert is a human testimony about the personal transformation of a woman trapped between two worlds and the struggle of a free people who refuse to disappear. SAHARA. The Boat of the Desert is a co-production by Teatro Pérez Galdós and Unahoramenos Producciones.
