Details
Otello is a lyric tragedy in four acts based on Shakespeare’s play Othello. The story revolves around General Otello, who returns victorious from war and is welcomed with love by his wife Desdemona. However, his envious ensign Iago, resentful for not having been promoted, plots his downfall. He manipulates Otello into falsely believing that Desdemona is unfaithful to him with the young officer Cassio. Consumed by jealousy, Otello ends up killing Desdemona and, upon discovering the truth too late, takes his own life. * Minors under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Opera in four acts with music by Giuseppe Verdi and an Italian libretto by Arrigo Boito, based on Shakespeare’s play ‘Othello, the Moor of Venice’. It was Verdi’s penultimate opera. It premiered at La Scala Theatre in Milan on 5 February 1887.
