Details

The Municipal Seniors Club of Santa Brígida, which depends on the Department for Seniors headed by Carmen Juez, is hosting an exhibition of Canarian dolls by Araceli Ortega Suárez, which faithfully recreates the traditional clothing of the islands during the 18th century. The exhibition opens this Tuesday, May 26, and can be visited until Friday 29, as part of the celebrations for Canary Islands Day. The dolls display faithful replicas that respect the cuts, colours, and materials typical of the period in each island. Each piece has been created with a meticulous level of detail based on historical documentation. In this way, the exhibition highlights the importance of respecting traditional dress, moving away from generic or stereotyped interpretations to reflect how people really dressed in the Canary Islands. The exhibition will be located in the cafeteria of the Seniors Club and, as it is arranged facing the windows, it can also be viewed from outside, making it easier for the public to enjoy it at any time of day. Araceli Ortega Suárez, creator of the collection, is a member of the folk group Sombras de Medianías, a collective that emphasizes the educational value of the work and the importance of preserving and respecting our cultural identity, actively contributing to keeping the essence of Canarian traditions alive.
